HOW TO HUMAN?

FIELD QUESTION · COURTESY = SURVIVAL · PRACTICE BEING A GUEST

Don’t Panic · Knowledge is power · Sit down before you speak

Not a sermon. A working brief on how not to wreck the room you were invited into — open palms, shared air, salt when offered, and the stubborn habit of noticing when manners have turned into a trap. Arthur stumbles through with manners and panic in equal measure. White mice keep the clipboard. The hull keeps score.

Courtesy is survival with better manners. Survival without courtesy is just longer panic. HAB LOG · HOW TO HUMAN · BEFORE THE HOLE
ARTHUR
I try to be polite. I also try not to put a hole in the hull. Those two jobs keep arguing in the corridor. Manners usually win — until physics shows up.
COMMS · CLIPBOARD-CHAN
Logged: subject prioritizes harm-avoidance language and guest manners. Valid as manners. Insufficient as hull integrity protocol. Bring brain. Leave lying scripts. Don’t Panic is an instruction, not a mood.
COMMS · CLIPBOARD-CHAN · FACTS
Guest rule one: you are borrowing the room. Guest rule two: if you concentrate hard enough on a wartime sign, you may invent a new hole. Guest rule three: duct tape exists for a reason.
ARTHUR — human — not a mouse
ARTHUR
Vacuum etiquette specialist. Invents mattress solutions. Still petitions for one ordinary minute.
Clipboard-chan — files emergencies under “stickers,” then alphabetizes the panic
CLIPBOARD-CHAN
Clipboard warm. Callous calm. Files hard fixes under “viable” before asking your feelings.
Duo Peace — high-fives only on Tuesdays · otherwise synchronized side-eye
DUO PEACE
Facts with sarcasm. Head-shakes in stereo. Duct-tapes hull holes Arthur invents.

Jump the bay

01Courtesy = survival

ARTHUR How to human is not a personality makeover. It is the set of small receipts that keep shared air breathable: open palm, hail by hull not by painted crest, salt when offered, repair once then sit down. Courtesy is the soft shell over hard physics.

FIELD NOTE

OPEN PALM

A receipt: you are not holding anything they need to worry about. Wave later — after you know them.

FIELD NOTE

DON’T PANIC

Instruction first, mood second. Panic invents mattress plugs. Calm invents duct tape.

FIELD NOTE

GUEST, NOT OWNER

Practice being a guest who doesn’t wreck the room. The hull remembers who invented the hole.

COMMS · CLIPBOARD-CHAN
Observation: humans confuse “I meant well” with “the airlock stayed sealed.” Logged for later. Cheese trajectory unaffected.

02Towel protocol

NORM · HOUSE RULE A towel is not magic. It is portable dignity: dry enough, warm enough, large enough to signal you planned to survive the afternoon. Bring one. Do not use it to plug a hull breach unless the mice have already declined the assignment.

I’m still standing. That has to count for something. ARTHUR
COMMS · DUO PEACE · SARCASM
It counts as textile. It does not count as structural engineering. Noted with affection. Proceed.

03Guest rules · Norm-adjacent

CLIPBOARD · CUSTOMS RHYME From the house handbook: salt → stay; silence → take it; flowers → already too late. On this bay the rhyme is simpler — don’t stare a wartime sign into a porthole.

RULE

READ THE SIGN

Context matters. Some signs are for war. Some are for dinner table diplomacy. Most are not invitations to concentrate.

RULE

REPAIR ONCE

If you broke it, say so once, hand over the bat, and let the specialists tape. Speeches enlarge the hole.

RULE

AFTER THE HARD BIT

When the vacuum stops screaming, sit down. Courtesy resumes when the air does.

04Banter logs

ARTHUR
Look, if someone posts DO NOT CONCENTRATE, the polite thing is to… not concentrate? I may have overdone the opposite. Purely by accident. Mostly.
COMMS · CLIPBOARD-CHAN
Hypothesis confirmed: inverse compliance under stress. Subject applied maximum attention to a prohibition placard. Outcome: small hull aperture. Cause: Arthur. Remedy: duct tape. Mice remain level. Clipboard stays open.
COMMS · DUO PEACE
What did you do? · asked of Arthur · tone: inventory, not terror
ARTHUR
I can explain— the sign— the corridor— a cricket bat may have been involved—
COMMS · CLIPBOARD-CHAN · FACTS
Logged. Tape first. Narrative second. Station rule update queued.

05Fact / feeling debate · mice vs Arthur

ENCLOSURE ARGUMENT · COURTESY VS SURVIVAL When fact and feeling mix, the room splits. Arthur argues from the guest couch. White mice argue from the clipboard. Theme of this bay: you are a guest in the enclosure — manners matter, and so does not inventing holes in the hull.

ARTHUR

Framing conflict

If you phrase it as “their side / your side,” you’ve already picked a fight. People hear a verdict before they hear a fact. Soften the sentence. Soften the room.

I don’t want to be the man who made someone cry so a spreadsheet could win.

YOUR SIDE · WHITE MICE · CLIPBOARD

Framing conflict

“Their side / your side” is not cruelty — it is orientation. Two drawers. Feelings in one. Assays in the other. Mixing drawers without labels is how guests invent holes.

Soften tone. Do not soften falsification. Callous note logged without ceremony.

ARTHUR

What the phrase stands for

Human rights mean: don’t crush people. Dignity. Safety. A towel and a fair hearing. When someone says “human rights,” I hear “please don’t hurt me.” That should count.

If the enclosure treats me like a specimen, calling it a rights violation is not a strawman — it’s me noticing the glass.

WHITE MICE · HUMAN RIGHTS AS PHRASE

How the phrase gets used

Human rights, properly: limits on power over bodies and speech. Not a magic shield that voids every observation that feels uncomfortable.

When “human rights” means “stop counting,” the clipboard calls foul. Rights protect persons. They do not erase physics, sex, or hull integrity.

ARTHUR

It’s wrong to subject him to this

I did not consent to be Experiment 42’s emotional sample. Running feelings through a maze while mice take notes is… a bit much. Strawman or not — it feels like a trap.

Feelings-first is not stupidity. It is refusing to let the clipboard become the only god in the room.

WHITE MICE · STRAWMAN DEFENSE REBUTTAL

Throw facts back into the strawman

Objection logged: subject frames observation as torture. Counter-assay: guests who refuse all measurement still live inside measured rooms. Gravity does not ask for consent forms.

Strawman defense noted. Facts returned to sender. Viable conclusion: pause after, tape first, Hard fixes remain conclusions that seemed viable.

OUTCOME · HOW TO HUMAN Courtesy without facts is longer panic. Facts without courtesy is a clipboard that forgets the guest. On this bay both drawers stay open: Arthur keeps the human angle; mice keep the pen; the enclosure keeps score.
ARTHUR
All right — two drawers. You’re still callous. You’re also… inconveniently correct about the hole.
COMMS · CLIPBOARD-CHAN
Callous = accurate under vacuum. Affection retained as optional seasoning. Do not concentrate on the sign.
COMMS · DUO PEACE
Guest status confirmed. Owner status denied. Duct tape inventory: adequate.

06Under the knife · still you?

REMODEL COUNT · IDENTITY ASSAY Fight about how many times you go under the knife — and whether you are still you when the count climbs. Arthur argues the inside. Mice argue the hull. Clipboard stays open.

ARTHUR

Feelings / identity over flesh

The body is furniture. The person is the tenant. If someone rebuilds the walls and still feels like themselves — or finally feels like themselves — who am I to say the renovation deleted them?

Count the ops if you must. I care about whether they can still take a breather without flinching. Identity is the story that keeps walking when the flesh gets edited.

WHITE MICE · HULL IS PART OF YOU

Remodel ≠ erase sexed reality

The body is not scenery. Repeated remodeling / surgical ops do not void sexed reality, gametes, or the guest’s origin file. Craft is allowed. Origin rewrite by decree is not.

Medical-psych flag — BDD (body dysmorphic disorder) and related body-horror loops: preoccupation with perceived defects; repeated procedures that do not extinguish the hunger; mirror-checking and concealment rituals. File as clinical pattern recognition — facts, low drama. · NCBI StatPearls · BDD overview ↗ linked on shelf below

ARTHUR

This is a right

Autonomy. Affirmation. Harm-reduction. Live and let live. Who are you to care what someone does with their own body? If the clinic says it reduces distress, I am not going to stand in the corridor with a clipboard and a veto.

People need to be free. People need choice. Gatekeeping someone’s surgery list because mice prefer graphs feels like cruelty dressed as science.

WHITE MICE · ONE-LINE REBUTTAL

Rights ≠ physics waiver

Autonomy is real. So is postoperative reality. Slogans do not regenerate tissue or rewrite karyotype. Callous note: compassion that forbids differential diagnosis is not medicine — it is liturgy.

ARTHUR
I am still me when I change clothes. Why is changing skin different? Leave people free. Leave people a choice.
COMMS · CLIPBOARD-CHAN
Clothes ≠ gonads. Freedom to alter ≠ obligation of guests to pretend origin vanished. Logged without ceremony.

07Darwin / herd · cult guilt

NATURAL THINNING · UNNATURAL GUILT People can do whatever to themselves — Darwin still thins the herd. The clipboard objects when a cult guilts the enclosure into marching in lockstep.

WHITE MICE · FRANK-ADJACENT BLUNT

Darwin still works · cults still guilt

Natural read: adults may remodel, risk, and refuse advice. Selection pressure does not ask HR. Thinning of the herd is not a moral pep talk — it is what happens when biology keeps the meters on.

But — the cult of the woke guilts you into following: sacred speech, exit costs, doubt filed as harm, soft smiles with hard ostracism. That is not “live and let live.” That is compulsory courtesy with a badge.

Cross-shelf (hers, verified): Propaganda of the Woke Mechanical Mind · The Warm Cage, Part One · The Behavioral Sink.

ARTHUR

Bright flags · soft speech · free guests

Look — I like bright flags. Rainbows on the door say “you can come in.” Inclusion is just courtesy with better lighting. If someone asks for soft speech, I soft-speak. Freedom means choice; choice means not policing their wardrobe, their pronouns, or their parade.

Compulsory? Maybe the word is harsh. I call it manners. Who wants to be the bloke who argues with a flag?

WHITE MOUSE · LAB-ANIMAL MIRROR

Humans are the lab animals here

Mirror logged: people treat lab animals the way white mice treat humans — subjects in an enclosure, Experiment 42 frame, meters on whether the guests like it. Callous clipboard: humans are the lab animals here. Observation continues. Mice remain level. Clipboard stays open.

Flags as optional aesthetics: fine. Flags as compulsory creed + exit costs: cult hardware. Soft speech demanded as loyalty oath is not hospitality — it is a customs form.

COMMS · CLIPBOARD-CHAN · FACTS
Natural self-harm risk ≠ moral duty to join the liturgy. Guilt is the leash. Cut the leash; keep the meters.
ARTHUR
You keep calling people lab animals. That is exactly why I reach for choice — and why the bright flag feels like shelter.
COMMS · DUO PEACE
Reach for the next fact. The flag does not recalibrate the assay.

08Bookstack Mouse · kindness masking cruelty · forced change

HISTORY SHELF · PATTERN RECOGNITION Bookstack Mouse opens the stack: soft care-language that masked hard regimes — and movements that forced social remodeling. Callous clipboard tone. No cartoons.

Bookstack Mouse — reads footnotes first · underlines the author’s excuses
BOOKSTACK MOUSE
History shelf · catalogs kindness-as-mask · bookmarks forced-remodel footnotes first
COMMS · BOOKSTACK · CLIPBOARD
Pattern, not parable: regimes and totalist movements repeatedly sold care, brotherhood, purity, and “the people” while enforcing exit costs. Soft nouns. Hard consequences. Also: forced change — not merely persuasion — remodeling society by decree.
Kindness / care language that masked cruelties
Forced-change / compulsory remodeling of society
COMMS · BOOKSTACK · CLIPBOARD
Observation: “kindness” and “inclusion” are not self-certifying. Ask what happens to the guest who declines the script. If the answer is exile, loss of livelihood, or ritual shame — you are not in a tea room. You are in a forced-change machine. Pattern filed.
ARTHUR
Comparing rainbow bunting to Year Zero is a bit much, isn’t it? Most people I meet just want a seat at the table.
COMMS · BOOKSTACK · CLIPBOARD
Analogy is of mechanism (soft nouns + compulsory remodel), not of body count. Charts still beat vibes.

09Frank · bay doors · hull wipe

JANITOR LOG · RETURN FROM OUTSIDE Frank walks back in through the bay doors. He has been cleaning something off the outside of the ship — glue residue, ash, protest crud from the last anomaly pass. He is still the mop. Not a seminar.

Frank — janitor · blunt · mop + cheese
FRANK
Janitor · blunt · mop + cheese · scrapes protest stickers off the outer hull
COMMS · FRANK · JANITOR
Bay doors. I’m back. Scraped glue and ash off the outer plate — leftover from that window mess. Protest stickers too. Ship’s not a billboard.
COMMS · FRANK
You lot still arguing feelings vs flesh? Fine. Floor’s sticky. Cheese is in the fridge. Don’t track cult glitter into my bay. I’m taking the mop and going.
COMMS · CLIPBOARD-CHAN
Frank status: exited. Residue inventory: reduced. Philosophical contribution: zero (as designed). Respect logged.
COMMS · FRANK
*mop bucket wheels · bay doors · gone*

10Arthur closes · feelings + liberal-man points

FEELINGS LANE · FINAL PASS Arthur returns to feelings and the common liberal-man talking points — freedom, choice, inclusivity, bright flags. Mice one-line rebut, callous and calm.

ARTHUR

What I keep coming back to

Bodily autonomy absolutism — not your body, not your veto.
Kindness is the only ethic worth having.
Gatekeeping is violence.
Lived experience beats charts.
If it reduces suicide risk, get out of the way.
Inclusion means the bright flag stays up and soft speech is just manners.
People need to be free. People need choice. Who are you to care?

I would rather be wrong with a kind word than right with a cold meter — and I hate that that sentence exists.

WHITE MICE · ONE-LINE REBUTTALS

Callous-calm · short returns

Autonomy ≠ demand that guests falsify sexed reality.
Kindness that forbids falsification is capture.
Gatekeeping irreversible harm can be care.
Lived experience is data — not a veto on other data.
Suicide-risk claims still require assays, not slogans.
Flags are optional textiles; creeds with exit costs are cults.
Freedom includes freedom from compulsory remodel liturgy.

OUTCOME · DEBATE BEAT EXTENDED Arthur keeps freedom, choice, feelings, and the inclusive flag. Mice keep Darwin, BDD files, lab-animal honesty, and the history shelf. Frank kept the hull clean and left. Bookstack Mouse filed the pattern. Bay remains LIVE.
ARTHUR
Fine. Two drawers. I still flinch when kindness gets filed as naïveté — but I’m listening.
COMMS · CLIPBOARD-CHAN
Want logged. Physics not repealed. Do not concentrate on the sign. Break after.
